About VARUN SINDHU KUL KAUMUDI
Born at Patna, Bihar, Shri V.S.K.Kaumudi did his Matriculation from St. Xaviers School, Patna, and graduation and post-graduation from the Panjab University., Chandigarh. He won Gold Medal for setting a new university record in B.A. (English Hons). He also won the National Merit Scholarship, Panjab University Scholarship and UGC Junior Research Fellowship.
He joined the Indian Police Service in the year 1986 and was adjudged the Best All-Round IPS Probationer of his batch, He won the Prime Minister’s Baton & Ministry of Home Affairs Revolver.
He was allotted to the Andhra Pradesh cadre and served in Adilabad, Karimnagar Districts and the AP Special Police in various capacities. He was posted as Joint Commissioner. of Police, Hyderabad, where he held charge of Security, Coordination & Hqrs. He worked in the Intelligence Dept. as the Head of the Security Wing, before being posted as the Commissioner of Police, Visakhapatnam, on his promotion as I. G. of Police.
As Supdt of Police, on deputation to the Central Bureau of Investigation, cases of national significance, like the Fodders Scam, were handled by him.
Back in the cadre, he worked as S.P., Guntur, and the Addl. Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Hyderabad, before taking over as IGP, Economic Offences Wing, CID, where he pursued several sensitive cases, including the Satyam Scam.
As the Addl. DGP, Railways, he was instrumental in reorganizing and strengthening the GRP in Andhra Pradesh, with emphasis on woman and child safety. He handled police budget, logistics and welfare as Addl. DGP, Provisioning, Logistics & Welfare. As the Addl. DGP, Law & Order, A.P., he effectively supervised the law & order arrangements during the 2014 General Elections and bifurcation of the state of Andhra Pradesh.
He worked on Central Deputation, in senior positions, as ADG, J&K Zone, CRPF, and Director General, BPR&D, before moving over as the Spl. Secretary, Internal Security, MHA. He retired as Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat, in November 2022.
He was a member of the Task Force on Preventing Illegal Migration, set up by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs. He launched the Hyderabad City Police News Letter and the BPR&D Bulletin, besides preparing sensitive Project Reports for the BPR&D under the National Police Mission.
He is a recipient of the Indian Police Medal, the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, the Special Duty (J&K) Medal and the Internal Security Medals.
