School of International Cooperation, Security and Strategic Languages (SICSSL)
Why study International Relations and Political Economy?
The study of International Relations at the school is focused on disseminating an Indian viewpoint of the regional security environment, i.e; its immediate and extended neighborhood as national security threats assume greater salience at proximity. As India's stature grows in the international community, its global engagement will become increasingly pertinent and will have significant implications for every sphere of national policy. Political economy studies the relationship that forms between a nation's population and its government when public policy is enacted. It is, therefore, the result of the interaction between politics and economy. India's economy is growing at a consistent pace and the world is eyeing its market potential. Hence studying the interplay between the political system and economy will be crucial in the times ahead.

Studying a language that has strategic importance from an Indian National Security perspective will add another key dimension to an Individual's skills. "The MA in IR&SS programme at SICSSL, RRU has simply been exhilarating. It has primarily encompassed understanding the fundamentals & evolution of international relations and its inter-linkages with India's national security challenges, drawing correlations from traditional theories to the contemporary developments in the global order and deciphering the perspectives of prominent authors, beyond the written text. Guided by mature in-house faculty and frequent interactions with experts in their respective domains, we have been continuously engaged & held deliberations in multiple facets of state behaviour, national security, international relations, major world powers, and international & Indian political economy. The opportunity to learn a new language has also been immensely helpful on this exciting path of this prestigious course."

"For any area study, studying language is very important. Learning Mandarin as a part of the course itself is proving to be very beneficial for me in studying China. This course offers the ideal blend of international relations, security studies, political economy, and area studies, as well as language specialisation. This combination, together with the well-crafted course, makes this institution stand out. Professors and Emeritus Resource Faculty do more than simply teach us concepts; they also prepare us to build opinions only after critical analysis, which is the most crucial aspect of any program in my viewpoint."

"Developments in today's interconnected world and the interactions of major powers, international organizations, and other governmental and non-governmental actors at the international level create threats and opportunities that need to be understood. On the other hand, in order to prevent threats, especially security threats, we must have an understanding of security and its components in its modern meaning. Therefore, the School's MA in IR & SS program, as a collection, helps us to study and observe all the mentioned themes."

The course structure ensures that our foundation is strong and also emphasizes on the importance of developing the Indian perspective of the world. It is also comprehensive as it integrates International Relations with the aspect of National Security by analyzing behavior of state and non-state actors, political economy and their impact on national security.
