Vision
The School of Internal Security and Police Administration (SISPA) aims to become the Institution Par Excellence in the domain of Internal Security and Police Administration by establishing a synergy between theory & practice in this realm; providing research based policy inputs for the consideration of decision-makers; and contributing towards up skilling the human resources deployed for the security of the Nation.
Mission
The School of Internal Security and Police Administration (SISPA) strives to undertake the following as its Mission:
- Impart Teaching in the domain of Internal Security and Police Administration by adopting effective pedagogy incorporating a rich blend of theory and practice
- Engage in pure and applied Research in the domain of Internal Security and Police Administration with a purpose to provide research based inputs to Policy Makers
- Design and conduct Training activities for up skilling the human resources deployed for the security of the Nation
- Provide Consultancy to organizations involved in strengthening the safety and security of the Nation
- Carry out Extension activities, whereby dissemination of knowledge in the domain of Internal Security and Police Administration is undertaken for public
- Contribute towards improving the Sensitivity of the Security Personnel
- Emerge as a hub of Influencers and Opinion Makers in the domain of Internal Security and Police Administration
About School of Internal Security and Police Administration
The School of Internal Security and Police Administration (SISPA) offers various Academic and Research Programmes viz. Ph.D. in Police Administration; M.Phil. in Police Administration; M.A. in Police Administration and Strategic Management; Post Graduate Diploma in Police Science & Management (PGDIPSM); Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Safety and Security (PGDISS); B.A. in Security Management (BASM); & Diploma in Police Science (DIPS). The SISPA was created in February 2020 with a view to expand the ambit of the then existing Department of Police Administration to cover various dimensions of internal security. The School has a rich pool of experienced faculty members, including those who have served with distinction in Gujarat Police and Central Industrial Security Force. The School strives to provide students with a blend of theory and practice. The internships and field visits to major police and other security organizations are regular features of the School. In addition, seminars, special lectures and regular interaction with practitioners from all the domains of internal security are facilitated by the School. In addition, the School has Five dedicated Centres namely Centre for Border Management and Intelligence Studies (CBMIS); Center for Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorism (CCICT); Centre for Corporate and Private Security Studies (CCPSS); Centre for Traffic Management and Road Safety (CTMRS); and Centre for Women in Police and Security Services (CWPSS).
Programmes & Course Objectives
The School of Internal Security and Police Administration (SISPA) would be offering Ph. D. Seats from the Academic Year 2020-21 in the discipline of Police Administration. The programme is jointly offered by the School i.e. SISPA and the Institute of Research & Development (IR&D) of the University. The programme has become all the more relevant as practitioners in the domain of internal security and policing are looking towards the teaching and research institutions for suggesting improvements in the theory and practice of internal security and Police Administration. In the light of this and with the objective to develop teaching and research skills of the students, the School has taken the initiative of introducing Ph. D. in Police Administration. The admission to the Programme is through Entrance Examination conducted by the University and eligibility, duration and other conditions of the Programme are governed by UGC and University Regulations.
The M. Phil. in Police Administration programme is jointly offered by the School of Internal Security and Police Administration (SISPA) and the Institute of Research & Development (IR&D) of the University. The discipline of Police Administration is growing day by day. A number of academic institutions across the country are offering programmes on Police Administration or are in the process of introducing the same. The concept of Internal Security/Police Universities has also come into being, courtesy the visionary leadership in the form of establishment of Rashtriya Raksha University, Gujarat. The practitioners in Police field are also looking towards the teaching and research institutions for suggesting improvements in the theory and practice of Police Administration. In the light of this and with the objective to develop teaching and research skills of the students, the School (earlier Department of Police Administration) at Rashtriya Raksha University had taken the initiative of introducing M. Phil. in Police Administration from the Academic Session 2017-18. The duration of the Programme is one year under semester pattern. The students having Post Graduation degree in relevant/allied discipline are eligible, however the preference is given to candidates having Masters Degree in Police Administration. The admission to the Programme is through Entrance Examination conducted by the University and eligibility, duration and other conditions of the Programme are governed by UGC and University Regulations.
The M.A. in Police Administration and Strategic Management programme is being offered from the Academic Session 2020-21 by extending the ambit of the existing M.A. in Police Administration Programme, which is being offered at the University since 2014-15. Amongst the three Police Universities in the Country, Rashtriya Raksha University has taken the lead in offering this Programme in the emerging domain of Police Administration with strong inputs on Strategic Management. The specializations being offered to Masters’ students are also unique comprising of: Counter-Insurgency and Anti-Terrorism; Border and Coastal Security; & Economic Crimes and Investigation. The Programme is being offered by a rich pool of experienced faculty members, who strive to provide students with a blend of theory and practice. The expertise of retired Police Professionals is also being effectively harnessed by the School of Internal Security and Police Administration. In addition, field visits and regular interaction with practitioners from various domains of internal security and police administration are facilitated. The internship and dissertation are mandatory for the students so that they are exposed to practical aspects of the theoretical knowledge imparted in the classrooms. The programme aims to provide trained and professionally qualified resource pool with understanding on Strategic Management issues for their absorption in the Police Departments, Central Armed Police Forces, security agencies, autonomous/private bodies, research institutions and think tanks working in this emerging domain. The students successfully completing Masters’ Programme have the advantage of additional marks in the Police Recruitments of Gujarat as per Recruitment Rules.
The Post Graduate Diploma in Police Science (PGDIPS) programme commenced from the academic year 2011-12. The programme is being offered in Gujarati Medium. The duration of the PGDIPS programme is one year spread across two Semesters. The admission to the programme is through merit basis. The students who have passed Graduation in any stream are eligible for the programme. The successful students will get additional marks (maximum 15 marks) in the recruitment of Gujarat Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) and additional marks (maximum 5 marks) in the recruitment of Gujarat Police Constabulary and Jail Sepoy based upon their performance in the examinations at Rashtriya Raksha University. The main objective of the programme is to train human resources for catering to the needs of police, armed forces and private security.
The Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Safety and Security (PGDISS) programme is commencing from the academic year 2020-21. The new Programme has been created by expanding the earlier Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Security (PGDIS), which was being offered to the students since 2015-16. The programme is being offered in English Medium. The duration of the PGDISS programme is one year spread across two Semesters. The admission to the programme is through merit basis. The students who have passed Graduation in any stream are eligible for the programme. The successful students will get additional marks (maximum 15 marks) in the recruitment of Gujarat Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) and additional marks (maximum 5 marks) in the recruitment of Gujarat Police Constabulary and Jail Sepoy based upon their performance in the examinations at Rashtriya Raksha University. The main objective of the programme is to train human resources for catering to the needs of various aspects of private security and corporate security.
The Bachelor of Arts in Security Management (BASM) programme was initiated in the year 2013-14. It has been offered in both English as well as Gujarati Mediums. The students who have passed Higher Secondary i.e. 10+2 in any stream are eligible for the programme. The programme is truly multi-disciplinary in its approach drawing from the disciplines/areas of Police Administration, Security Management, Law, Criminology, Forensic Science, Physical Education & Sports, Information Technology and including significant inputs from various aspects of Social Sciences namely Political Science, History, Geography, Psychology, Economics. The programme also focuses upon Research Methodology, Disaster Management, Personality Development, Linguistic skills. The Programme aims at preparing the youngsters for career in the Police Departments, Central Armed Police Forces, security agencies, autonomous/private bodies, private security management, research institutions and think tanks.
The Diploma in Police Science (DIPS) programme is the flagship programme of the Rashtriya Raksha University, which commenced from the academic year 2010-11. The programme is being offered in Gujarati Medium. The duration of the DIPS programme is one year spread across two Semesters. The admission to the programme is through merit basis. The students who have passed Higher Secondary i.e. 10+2 in any stream are eligible for the programme. The successful students will get additional marks (maximum 5 marks) in the recruitment of Gujarat Police Constabulary and Jail Sepoy based upon their performance in the examinations at Rashtriya Raksha University. The main objective of the programme is to train human resources for catering to the needs of police, armed forces and private security.
