About

Lt Gen (Dr) Konsam Himalay Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), a distinguished military officer and scholar from Manipur, retired from the Indian Army in 2017 and now resides in Imphal. Educated initially in Manipur and later at Sainik School Goalpara, Assam, he graduated from the National Defence Academy, Pune, and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun in 1978. Commissioned into the Rajput Regiment, his illustrious career spanned over three decades, including key operational and staff roles such as Assistant Military Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Colonel Administration of a Mountain Division on the China border, and Commanding Officer roles in critical sectors including the LOC and Mizoram. He played a significant part in major operations like Kargil (Operation Vijay), Siachen (Operation Meghdoot), and commanded large formations in Jammu & Kashmir, culminating as Corps Commander in the LOC region. Lt Gen Singh holds multiple advanced degrees, including a PhD in National Security Studies, and continues to contribute academically as an advisor and faculty at Manipur University. He is also the first Lieutenant General from Northeast India and has been honored with prestigious awards such as the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal. Post-retirement, he served as Chairman of the Manipur Public Service Commission and actively participates in peace initiatives and national security discourse. An avid mountaineer and author, his notable works include Romancing the Line of Control and Making of a General: A Himalayan Echo.
