Dr. Rajnish Ranjan is a distinguished expert in Disaster Risk Management (DRM), Climate Change Adaptation, Flood and River Erosion Studies, and Training & Capacity Building, with more than 18 years of multi-sectoral professional experience across premier Government of India institutions, State Administrative Training Institutes, and the corporate sector. A PhD in Geology with CSIR-UGC NET qualification, Dr. Ranjan has made significant contributions to strengthening India’s disaster resilience through his work in policy development, capacity-building programs, hydropower disaster risk reduction, disaster management plan preparation, and large-scale government consultancy projects. Throughout his career, Dr. Ranjan has served in pivotal roles at the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, where he led portfolios related to floods, river erosion, training reforms, and digital learning. As Senior Consultant at NIDM, he spearheaded India’s pioneering e-learning initiatives in disaster management and conducted more than 200 national and state-level training programs, conferences, and workshops, reaching officials and practitioners across the country. At NDMA, he played a leading role in national-level expert groups, including serving as Member Secretary of the NDMA Expert Committee on 2016 Flooding and Siltation in Bihar, Coordinator of the NDMA Expert Group on Urban Flood Mitigation, and Lead Author for the National Guidelines on Boat and Navigational Safety. Dr. Ranjan’s academic engagements span multiple eminent institutions, including the YASHADA Administrative Training Institute, the J&K Institute of Management, Public Administration & Rural Development, and National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna, where he taught Engineering Geology and Disaster Management to undergraduate and postgraduate students. His unique pedagogical approach and strong classroom presence earned him distinction as a highly admired teacher among students. He has also supervised PhD and postgraduate dissertations, including guiding a doctoral scholar at Amity University. In the corporate domain, Dr. Ranjan served as Vice President at Skymet Weather Services Pvt. Ltd., where he led government business, public-private partnership initiatives, strategic development in weather and disaster services, and national-level disaster management projects. His ongoing role as Executive Director, Disaster Management Division at DDF Group, involves guiding high-impact governmental and institutional initiatives in disaster preparedness, resilience planning, and climate risk mitigation. He is widely recognized for his thought leadership and has delivered guest lectures at prestigious forums such as the Institute of Secretariat Training & Management (DoPT), Indian Aviation Academy, Haryana Institute of Public Administration, Delhi Jal Board, and several central/state institutions. He has also contributed significantly to R&D activities, serving as a doctoral co-supervisor and guiding more than 15 postgraduate dissertations in Disaster Preparedness and Rehabilitation. Dr. Ranjan has authored multiple research papers, book chapters, and over 10 articles, including a prominent book chapter in Springer Nature’s publication on flood disaster management. He is affiliated with several national and international bodies, including the Geological Society of India, the Association of Geo-Scientists for International Development, and the Advisory Board of the Institute of Disaster Management & Safety Science (Nigeria). His contributions have been acknowledged through multiple honours, including recognition by NIDM–World Bank as an Outstanding Performer in e-learning ToT training and the Media Fellowship Award by the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India. With a blend of field experience, academic excellence, and policy-level leadership, Dr. Ranjith Ranjan continues to play a transformative role in advancing disaster resilience, institutional capacity building, and evidence-based disaster management practices across India and beyond.
