Group Captain (Dr) Swaim Prakash Singh is a category AYE, Master Fighter Controller, and AWACS Mission Commander with over 1000 hours of flying. He is an alumnus of Air Defence College Memaura and Defence Services Staff College Wellington and has also served as Directing Staff (psc+).
The officer has commanded two Mobile Observation Flights (MOF) in Ladakh, where these units were awarded CAS Unit Citation in 2006. He has also raised a Transportable Radar Unit (TRU) and resurrected a strategic Signal Unit (SU). The officer was part of the Tri- Services Indian Expert team to review the course curriculum of the Command and Staff College of Tanzania in 2016. He was instrumental in achieving a significant diplomatic feat in opening the Indian Armed Forces Training Team (IAFTT) at C&SC Tanzania, which commenced functioning in 2017. As a MEA Official, he led a group of 46 pilgrims to Kailash Mansarovar in China in 2019. He has also been to Israel and Russia.
The scholar holds an MSc, M Phil, PhD and psc+ in Defence and Strategic Studies. He has also specialised in the Space Technology and Space Law. As Senior Fellow at the Centre for Air Power Studies (CAPS), he has been writing and speaking on various issues related to defence, aerospace power, UNPKF and international relations, especially India- Africa and the IOR. His articles have found a place in prominent peer-reviewed journals of CAPS, MPIDSA, CENJOWS, USI, IIPA, and booklets of the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and the MoD. He has also been part of policy-making study teams at NSCS both as a member and Principal researcher. He was declared Runner Up in the USI Gold Medal Essay Competition 2023. He has co-edited a book, “Indian Air Force in its Centennial Decade”, released in Jun 2023. His second self-authored book “Indian Air Force and Integration of Armed Forces” was released in March 2024 by the CAS. He has been the Programme director of first ever Warfare and Aerospace Strategy Programme (WASP) conducted at CAPS in 2024.
The officer has been commended by the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of HQ Western Air Command in 2006 and by the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff in 2016.
The scholar warrior is currently employed as a Directing Staff at the College of Air Warfare (CAW) Secunderabad, Visiting Fellow at CAPS New Delhi and affiliated Subject Matter Expert (SME) at CENJOWS New Delhi. He is also the Editor of annual CAW Journal.
