About

Lt Gen (Dr.) KJ Singh, PVSM, AVSM & Bar (Veteran) is a distinguished scholar-warrior and soldiers’ general who has dedicated his post-retirement years to nation-building and knowledge sharing through his mission to develop “Nagrik Yodhas” (Citizens Warriors) and “Jagruk Hindustani” (Vigilant Indians). His illustrious military career includes serving as Western Army Commander, responsible for Pakistan border operations including counter-terrorism in Jammu-Kathua-Samba and China Border management in Himachal Pradesh, and commanding the Sikkim Corps with borders spanning four countries including the strategically vital Siliguri Corridor. His operational expertise encompasses counter-terrorism and insurgency management across conflict-prone regions including Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, North East, and Left Wing Extremism affected areas, while also commanding an Armoured Division and India’s first T-90 Armoured Brigade. Following his military service spanning five decades (January 1966 to July 2016), General Singh has continued his distinguished career in public service as former Haryana State Information Commissioner and Advisor to the Chief Minister of Haryana, member of UT Advisory Council and Panchkula Development Committee, and Chairman of UT Education Committee. His academic contributions are exemplified through his tenure as the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Chair of Excellence at Panjab University (August 2016 to September 2020), currently serving as Honorary Professor at Panjab University and Professor of Practice at Chandigarh University, while regularly addressing prestigious institutions including IIMs and RRU. General Singh’s exceptional service has been recognized through prestigious awards including PVSM, Bar to AVSM and AVSM for Distinguished Service, and the “Eminent Punjabi” award from Punjab Government on Guru Nanak’s 550th centenary. His international recognition includes citation for bravery during UN Peace building mission in Angola by the UN Force Commander, along with commendations from the Chief of Army Staff and twice by Eastern Army Commander. His scholarly achievements culminated in earning his PhD in Defence Studies from Panjab University in 2023 with his research on “Strategic Analysis of China-Pak Economic Corridor from Indian Perspective,” complemented by an Honorary PhD from the University of Engineering & Management in February 2025. A prolific writer and strategic commentator, General Singh maintains a regular fortnightly column “Generals Jottings” in Times of India among his 200+ published articles, while frequently appearing as a commentator on strategic affairs across electronic and social media platforms. His institutional contributions include establishing the first regional security-related think tanks—Gyan Chakra & Gyan Setu in Chandigarh—and organizing the inaugural Military Literature Festival in June 2015. Currently serving as a member of DRDO’s Steering and Monitoring Groups for projects like the Zorawar light tank, he continues his multifaceted engagement as a motivational speaker, leadership coach, and Art of Living teacher, embodying the synthesis of military excellence, academic distinction, and social service.
