Mr. Ravi Gandhi is a highly accomplished and decorated senior officer of the Border Security Force (BSF), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, with an exceptional career spanning nearly 39 years of dedicated service. Rising through the ranks from Commandant to Additional Director General (ADG), he has held some of the most prestigious and challenging leadership appointments in India’s border management and internal security architecture. Known for his strategic vision, administrative acumen, and operational excellence, Mr. Gandhi has led large-scale formations, spearheaded modernization initiatives, and contributed significantly to national security, international cooperation, and institutional development. Mr. Gandhi has also served as Director of the BSF Academy, Gwalior, where he modernized training systems, introduced digital platforms, and strengthened curriculum and doctrine development to prepare officers for contemporary security challenges. His oversight extended to the Rustamji Institute of Technology (RJIT) and the Tear Smoke Unit (TSU)—India’s only producer of non-lethal munitions—ensuring high-quality production, research, and nationwide supply of critical equipment to police and paramilitary forces. His earlier roles as Inspector General in Gujarat and North Bengal Frontier, DIG (Intelligence), DIG (Infrastructure), and Principal of elite BSF training centres reflect his deep experience across operations, intelligence, administration, and capacity building. Internationally, Mr. Gandhi is recognized for his contributions during his deployment with the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he led war crimes investigations and strengthened global policing capacities. He also served as a Border Management Expert with the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT) and the Global Counter Terrorism Forum (GCTF), and has represented India at international platforms in Morocco, Nairobi, Senegal, London, and other global forums. His distinguished service has earned him some of India’s highest honours, including the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Police Medal for Meritorious Service, Ati Utkrash Seva Medal, DG’s Star, and numerous commendation rolls. Academically trained at premier institutions such as IIM Indore, MDI Gurgaon, IDSA, and the HQ Land Warfare Centre in the UK, Mr. Gandhi has authored policy papers on resource prioritization, cross-border cooperation, and security modernization. A respected team leader and an effective communicator, he remains widely admired for his integrity, professionalism, crisis leadership, and commitment to national interest.
