Maj Gen (Dr) Sandeep Sharma has served the nation for close to 43 years in different leadership roles, both in Army and Civil domain. An alumni of National Defence Academy, the officer is also a graduate of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and College of Defence Management, Secunderabad. The officer is M Tech (Computer Science & Engineering) from IIT Kanpur, Master in Management Studies from Osmania University Hyderabad, Masters in Defence Studies from Madras University and PhD in Cyber Security from NorthCap University, Gurugram. He was awarded with Vishisht Seva Medal for his distinguished services on 26th Janurary 2014 by the President of India. The officer is also life member of Computer Society of India (CSI) and All India Management Association (AIMA) and Fellow of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE). He has also served in Military Operations (during Op VIJAY) and Perspective Planning Directorates at Army Headquarters and has been exposed to various strategic and operational facets of the National Security. The officer has been actively working to promote academic excellence across various education institutions in the country. The officer has been instructor for communication, computers and data security for the graduate and post graduate courses at Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, Mhow. He was involved in raising and commanding of Cadet Training Wing (equivalent to Principal of Engineering College) responsible for engineering in ECE and technical training of cadets for induction into the Army as officers. The officer has excellent academic achievements starting from 10th class onwards. He was in merit list of top five of Rajasthan Board both in Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations. He is also recipient of NCERT scholarship and NRDC (National Development Research Corps) prize winner in scientific essay competition. He has been topper in his graduate course. The officer has number of academic research to his credentials. He has written several articles on operations research, simulation and modeling, knowledge management, cyber warfare and cyber awareness. His publications include three journal {Scopus indexed and Web of Science} and two conference chapters. List of publications in enclosed. He has also done certification course in Cyber Laws from Indian Law Institute and Diploma in HRD from DAVV Indore. He has also developed complex automation software for the Army. The General is a well known data and cyber security expert having been in this field for over three decades. He has been involved in formulation of National Cyber Security Policy 2013 and various cyber security initiatives at the National level since 2010. He has also drafted Army Cyber Security Policy 2012 and 2014 and was involved in raising of Army Cyber Group and commanded it from 2010 to 2014. Due to his initiatives and sustained efforts, Army Cyber Group was notified through GOI Gazette Notification as Examiner of Digital Evidences under section 79 of IT Act 2000 by Ministry of Communication and IT in 2012, the first government organization to have been recognized under IT Act. The officer has travelled widely in connection with official duties to USA, UK, Singapore, Nigeria, Germany and attended many international conferences in USA, Germany, Israel, Thailand and Dubai. The officer has served in NTRO, the premier organization of the country, as Scientist H with additional charge of Advisor (Intelligence and Scientific). As an renowned academician and cyber security expert, the officer interest lies in International Affairs, National Security, strategic management, contemporary technologies, dark web, digital forensics, cyber audit, cyber laws and malware research. He is credited to have rendered quality and result oriented leadership to large workforce, both young and seasoned, motivating them to perform under difficult conditions with scarce resources.
