About Mr. Norbu Lhagyal
Mr. Norbu Lhagyal is a Subject Matter Specialist (Tibetan and Mandarin language) at the School of International Cooperation, Security and Strategic Languages (SICSSL). Prior, he worked as a Tibetan, Chinese and English Language teacher at the Tibetan Serajey Monastery in Bylakuppe, Karnataka (2020). Mr. Norbu has completed his primary schooling in Jipenggang Primary School, Tibet; higher schooling from the Tibetan Children’s Village Schools, India; and Graduation in Chinese Language and Cultural Studies, School of Languages, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He was an executive member of the JNU Tibet Forum.
Mr. Norbu was a participant in the twenty-two days residential “Gurukul Program” at His Holiness the Dalai Lama Temple in Dharamsala (2016). He has been actively involved in multiple capacities with the Initiative for Change, an international organisation with global presence, as an organiser for Let’s Make A Difference’s National Youth Conference (2017) where he had been awarded the ‘best participant’ among two hundred youths across India (2016); as first-ever Tibetan coordinator, Indian National Youth Conference organised by the Centre for Initiative of Change, India (2017); and as volunteer in the outreach team in Northeast India and Nepal (2018).
Mr. Norbu was also one of the 20 ‘Initiative of Change’ scholars from 14 different countries across the world to get leadership training on ‘Peace building and Conflict Resolution’ fully funded and organised by the Initiative of Change, US (2017-2018). He received the Kanthari scholarship with twenty other young leaders from across the world to attend an intensive Leadership course in Trivandrum, Kerala (2019-2020). He is also trained and prepared with skills, tools and practical experiences to start and run a social initiative.
