About Mr. Ankur Sharma
Mr. Ankur Sharma is an Assistant Professor of Law at the School of Integrated Coastal and Maritime Security Studies, Rashtriya Raksha University in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. He completed his master’s degree in Public International Law from South Asian University, New Delhi, which is an international university set up by SAARC member countries.
He qualified the University Grants Commission’s National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) twice—in 2016 and 2018—and has been involved in teaching and research ever since. Currently, he is pursuing a Ph.D. at the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, focusing on the Law of International Organizations.
Mr. Sharma was awarded a fellowship to attend the 17th IFLOS Summer Academy on the Law of the Sea, 2025, held at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) in Hamburg, Germany. His main interests include Public International Law, Law of the Sea, Maritime Law, Law of International Organisations, International Trade and Economic Law, and Human Rights Law.
He has delivered numerous lectures on the Law of the Sea, covering topics such as law enforcement at sea, criminal jurisdiction in maritime zones, piracy, drug trafficking at sea, and the law relating to Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) under Article 110 of UNCLOS, as well as ITLOS jurisprudence. These lectures have been a part of training programs for Indian Coast Guard officials, coastal and marine police from various states and union territories, Central Industrial Security Force personnel, port security officials, and law enforcement officers from friendly foreign countries under the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India’s ITEC program. Additionally, he has served as the lead faculty member training the police forces of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Union Territories on the new criminal laws of India.
Before joining Rashtriya Raksha University, Mr. Sharma taught at Symbiosis Law School, Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune, where he also led the Legal Aid Centre in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority and worked on community outreach and legal awareness initiatives. He is a member of the Global Alliance for Justice Education (GAJE). He has also been a visiting faculty member at Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai, and has served as an external examiner and moot court judge for various colleges and universities.
