About MAJOR GENERAL N D PRASAD, AVSM, VSM (RETD)

Major General N D Prasad (Retd) was commissioned into the Mechanised Infantry Regiment in December 1984. He commanded a Mechanised Infantry Battalion as part of Strike Corps along the Western borders, a Mountain Brigade along the LAC and an Infantry Division as part of a Strike Corps. He is a graduate of the National Defence Academy – Khadakwasla, Defence Services Staff College – Wellington, Higher Command Course – Army War College – Mhow and National Defence College – New Delhi. His academic qualifications include an M.Sc in Defence & Strategic Studies and M.Phil in Strategic Leadership &National Security from Madras University, and another M.Phil in Defence and Management Studies from DAVV, Indore. He has working knowledge of Chinese language. He is an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad & IIM Mumbai. He is a qualified assessor and instructor at Services Selection Boards under the aegis of Defence Institute of Psychological Research, DRDO.

He represented India as the Deputy Defence Attaché in Beijing for three years and held numerous assignments dealing with China, India’s strategic neighbourhood and counter insurgency/ terrorism in Northeast. He was privileged to lead India’s first ever Tri- services exercise with a friendly foreign country: Exercise Indra – 2017 as the Overall Force Commander. He was awarded twice by the President of India for distinguished service of an exceptional order.

The Officer is a Randonneur, Triathlete and a long distance runner. He has led a Wind Surfing expedition of Cadets from National Defence Academy on the Arabian Sea. He also enjoys wild life photography.

The Officer superannuated in June 2021 as Dean & Chief Instructor, Faculty of Studies & Leadership at Army War College, Mhow. He raised the Faculty of Military Leadership for training the leadership in the Indian Army at all levels during this tenure. He was the Deputy Director General & Distinguished Fellow with Centre for Contemporary China Studies, Ministry of External Affairs before joining the RRU as Director of SISDSS.
