About Dr. Jyoti Murmu
Dr. Jyoti Murmu, is an Assistant Professor of International Relations and Security Studies at the School of International Cooperation, Security, and Strategic Languages (SICSSL) since June 2024. She has previously worked with the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes; worked as a Mentor in the GOAL project of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, and Research Associate at the UNESCO Krityanand Club, Tatanagar. At the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya’s Centre for Advanced International Studies, she serves as the book review editor for the USTM Journal of International Studies.
Dr. Murmu has successfully completed her Ph.D. from the Centre for Russian and Central Asian Studies, JNU, in 2023. Her Ph.D. topic was “Russian Peacekeeping Operation in the post-Cold War Era: A Case Study of Georgia, 1992-2008.” Her thesis evaluated Russia’s peacekeeping in Georgia region, especially in South Ossetia and Abkhazia which are outside the UN mandate, and shows the different approaches that it follows in peacekeeping and in intervention in the CIS region. She has completed her M.Phil from the CRCAS, JNU in 2016 and her dissertation examined the Russia and Peacekeeping Operation in the Commonwealth of Independent States, 1992-2000. She holds a Master’s degree in Politics (Specialization in International Relations) from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science (Hons.) from Ravenshaw University, Cuttack. She has completed UGC sponsored Foundation course in “Human Rights Education.”
Her areas of expertise include the Russia and Central Asia, Peace and Conflict, United Nation, Peacekeeping, Peace Building and Geopolitics. She has published widely on Russian Peacekeeping Operations, the Geopolitics of Russia and CIS regions. She has presented at numerous national and international conferences.
