Centre for Geoinformatics

Geoinformatics is an interdisciplinary field that combines geography, Information systems, global satellite navigation systems and remote sensing technology. The area has become increasingly essential in our data-driven world. The dedicated Centre in Geoinformatics will contribute to geoinformatics research, training, education and industry growth.

VISION

To conduct, lead, and foster research, training, and innovative solutions in the various fields of geoinformatics, such as Geographical information systems, remote sensing technology, and global navigation satellite systems.

The primary goals:
  1. Research: Conduct cutting-edge research in geoinformatics to address challenges faced by soldiers, police and society and contribute to the academic and scientific community.
  2. Training: Offer comprehensive training programs to produce a skilled workforce with the latest geospatial tools and methods.
  3. Industry Collaboration: Establish partnership with Public-Private partnership to develop practical solutions and promote technology transfer.
  4. Outreach: Organize technical events to promote the use of geoinformatics and its Applications
Activities of the centre:
  1. Urushya: The smart campus project of Rashtriya Raksha University.

This project aims to integrate GIS and Artificial intelligence. We have developed indigenous face recognition and number plate recognition systems integrated with GIS. The 3D modelling of the university also enables viewshed analysis. Some glimpses are shown here:

  2. Two-week certificate program on “Principles of GIS and Remote Sensing” in October 2022 for Gujarat and Delhi Police.
  3. A one-week certificate program on “Principles of Geographic Information Systems” in January 2023 for research scholars, academicians, and corporates.
  4. Two-week certificate program on “Principles of GIS and Remote Sensing” in April 2023 for the National Security Guard.
  5. A one-week certificate program on “Hyperspectral remote sensing image analysis” for academicians and researchers in July 2023.
  6. Second certificate program on “Principles of Geografic Information Systems” in March 2024 for research scholars, academicians, corporates and Armed forces.
  7. Certificate program on “Geoinformatics for National Security” in August 2024 for Assam Rifles.
  8. A notable ongoing project is the SAC-ISRO-sponsored research project titled “AI/ML-Based Mapping of Planetary Morphology/Morphometry.” This project, with a total outlay of ₹13,93,016 and a duration of two years, focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to map and analyze planetary surfaces.
